The Swiss GWR building and dwelling register, parcel by parcel
groove shows the Swiss federal building and dwelling register (GWR) on an interactive map. Search an address or click a parcel, and groove loads the register record of every building on it.
Register
For each building, the Register tab shows:
- EGID, building number and EGRID
- Year built, area, floors and number of dwellings
- Building status, class and category
- Energy source for heating and hot water
- The raw GWR record as JSON, ready to copy
Dwellings
The Dwellings tab lists every apartment the register records in the buildings on the parcel, grouped by floor. Each line shows the floor, apartment number, rooms and area, with a dwelling count and floor area per floor and in total. Every dwelling carries its register status, from projected and approved to under construction and demolished, and only existing dwellings are summed. The dwelling register is reloaded monthly, and the tab names its export date.

Frequently asked questions
Where does groove get its building and dwelling data?
From the federal building and dwelling register (GWR) kept by the Federal Statistical Office (BFS). Building records are read from the BFS register layer on geo.admin.ch; the dwelling list comes from the bulk register BFS publishes.
How current is the GWR data in groove?
The dwelling register is reloaded monthly, and the Dwellings tab shows the export date of the data on screen. Building records are looked up on geo.admin.ch when you open a parcel and kept in your browser for up to 24 hours.
Can I see planned or demolished dwellings in a building?
Yes. Each dwelling shows its register status, such as projected, approved, under construction or demolished, with the demolition year where recorded. Only existing dwellings count toward the totals.
